The Second Annual SC ASTA Violin Choir/Workshop
Rescheduled for March 19-20, 2010

• Teacher/Adv. Student (THERE ARE STILL OPENINGS FOR ADV/TEACHER)
• Intermediate
• Beginners

The SC ASTA Violin Choir/Workshop will have an optional registration/reading session on Friday, March 19. You will be able to register early, pick up your t-shirt (to wear on Saturday!) and sight read through the choir music. This option is ONLY for the Advanced/Intermediate violins. Beginners may register on Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Steven K. Leonard, guest conductor. Steven K. Leonard graduated with a Bachelor of Music with Distinction in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Arts in Music Education from Truman State University. He was a student of Raphael Bronstein’s in New York City, and also studied with Oliver Steiner, James Buswell and Charles Castleman. Mr. Leonard studied chamber music with the founding members of the Cleveland Quartet: Donald Weilerstein, Peter Salaff, Martha Katz and Paul Katz. His other chamber music teachers have included Harvey Shapiro, John Perry and Abram Loft.

Mr. Leonard was Assistant Concertmaster of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in Birmingham before moving to Atlanta in 1995. He has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Lyric Theater Orchestra, the Colorado Philharmonic and the Eastman/Dryden Theater Orchestra.

While in Birmingham, Mr. Leonard held teaching positions at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Birmingham Southern College and Huntingdon College and had many private students. He has served as an Instructor of Violin and Music at Truman State University in Missouri and has taught at several summer music programs, including the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan and the Symphony School of America in Wisconsin. In Atlanta he was the Director of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta first Chamber Music Program and has been an elementary orchestra director in the DeKalb and Atlanta Public School districts.

Currently, Steven K. Leonard performs as a violinist in the Atlanta Opera and Atlanta Ballet Orchestras and is on the violin faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts Summer Program. Mr. Leonard also is the Director of the String Orchestra for the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta. He maintains a busy private teaching studio. Mr. Leonard is the Director of the Elementary Orchestra Program at The Paideia School, and is the Violin Coach for the DeKalb Youth Symphony. Mr. Leonard frequently acts as a clinician at string workshops throughout the country. He enjoys participating in solo and chamber music recitals regularly at various venues around Atlanta. Steven Leonard, his wife Kitty and their son, Keith reside in Tucker, Georgia.

Eun-Sun Lee began her violin studies in Seoul, Korea, and continued in Los Angeles, California, where she received first prize in the American String Teachers’ Association Competition. She received her Bachelor and Master Degrees from The Juilliard School in New York City, where she was a scholarship pupil of Dorothy DeLay and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Southern California as a Teaching Assistant to Eudice Shapiro. Dr. Lee’s solo and chamber music recitals throughout the United States include performances in New York City for the Beethoven Society, the Metropolitan Museum, Carnegie Hall, Kaufman Concert Hall at the 92nd Street Y, Lincoln Center, the Centennial Celebration Series of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Korean Cultural Service in New York City, Emory University, Point Loma Nazarene University, Pepperdine University, Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, and Highlands/Cashiers Festival in North Carolina.

Dr. Lee has performed in several continents including Asia, South America, Europe and has been a faculty member and performer at the International Workshops Orchestra and the Eduard Melkus Ensemble at the 26th Annual American String Teachers’ Association International Workshop in Stavanger, Norway, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts, the Hidden Valley Seminars in Carmel, California, and Waterloo Music Festival in Elizabeth, New Jersey. As a member of the South Carolina Arts Commission Community Tour and Approved Artist Roster and founding artist member of SouthernArtistry.org (www.southernartistry.org) she has released two CD recordings with her Violin/Piano Duo partner, Fabio Parrini. Dr. Lee is Associate Professor of Music, Director of Wofford Chamber Players and the Director of Chamber Music Series at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
